By Rejean Pommainville, Director, Ontario Federation of Agriculture
It’s that time of year again – the Ontario Federation of Agriculture’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and convention. In keeping with OFA’s focus over the past year, this year’s convention theme is Growing Ontario and highlighting opportunities in Ontario’s agri-food industry. The OFA first introduced Growing Ontario in our provincial election campaign, reminding candidates how important agriculture is to Ontario’s economy. We’ve continued this discussion in the halls of Queen’s Park, in farm fields and along the back roads with our members. OFA members, delegates, directors and industry supporters will continue the conversation at this year’s convention, discussing how we can continue Growing Ontario. The OFA’s AGM and convention is November 23-25 in Niagara Falls at the Sheraton on the Falls Hotel. More than 400 attendees are expected to meet to discuss important issues, hear speakers on a variety of topics, vote for OFA leadership and be inspired by fellow Ontario farmers. New this year, OFA is hosting workshops. Attendees can participate in interactive workshops on finance, farm programs, research updates and young farmer mentoring. Speaker highlights include an economic outlook and an address from Jeff Leal, Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. Elections for OFA president, vice presidents and two director-at-large positions will be conducted throughout the event. Once again, the Ontario Young Farmers Forum will be held in conjunction with the OFA AGM, giving young farm leaders an opportunity to network with OFA members and industry representatives. For those who are unable to attend the AGM, you can watch online by visiting www.ofa.on.ca during the event. For a full agenda and event details, visit the OFA website. The OFA invites all our members to join us at our annual AGM and convention, a time to share your thoughts, catch up with friends and take away new ideas for your farms.
