The Dundas Agriculture Community Groups invite you to the 2019 Dundas Farmers Charity Gala
About the Charities
Community Food Share
Community Food Share distributes emergency food aid to the residents of the Dundas and Stormont Counties. On average, they serve approximately 165 households every month representing 500 individuals. In 2018, Community Food Share made a strategic decision to adopt a Healthy Choices mode, ensuring clients leave with enough food to give their family five days worth of nutritional meals. This resulted in fewer pre-packaged items and more fresh selections such as mean, vegetables and milk.
While the healthy choices model has extremely positive feedback, it also comes with significantly higher costs. The majority of fresh items cannot be donated, meaning Community Food Share depends on cash donations to keep the program running. Because of relationships built with local vendors, Community Food Share is usually able to make the value of a dollar go further. In fact, for every $1 we receive, we can often purchase $3 worth of food!
Naomi's Family Resource Centre
Naomi’s Family Resource Centre is a free, confidential, safe and secure emergency shelter for women 16 and over with or without children who have been physically, emotionally, verbally or sexually abused. They also offer a Child and Youth Program, Crisis Line and Women's Group. While funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services for core funding requests are limited unless it is a safety risk.
Year after year, Naomi's Family Resource Centre's infrastructure requests for government funding have been rejected because there are other agencies with greater needs. As a result, the organization is tasked with funding a number of projects on their own, with some of the more urgent, outstanding projects including:
- Replacing at least 4 Windows
- Purchase of a twin size, adjustable electric bed for their accessible suite
- Purchasing a commercial washer and dryer to handle the volume of laundry that far exceeds that of a normal household
- Investing in quality livingroom furniture for the high traffic area
